Privacy Policy
Effective October 21, 2026
The short version
Nearly does not collect, store, sell or share any personal data. There are no accounts and no servers. Your photos never leave your iPhone, and the trace you share goes only to the person you choose to send it to.
What happens on your device
- Photo library. With your permission, Nearly reads the date and location of your photos and videos to build your trace. It doesn't analyze what's in your photos. When it shows a moment, it loads the photo you took then, on your iPhone.
- Your trace. Your full trace is stored only in the app's own storage on your iPhone.
- Camera. Used only to scan your partner's QR code. No images are saved.
- Settings such as your name, the day you met and what counts as "nearly" are stored on your iPhone only.
What you choose to share
- Your trace. When you show your QR code or send your Nearly file, your partner receives your name and a list of places and times, with places rounded to about 100 m and times to the minute. It goes directly from your phone to theirs (by QR code, AirDrop, Messages or any app you pick). We never receive it.
- Photo swaps. Only if you choose to, you can send copies of the photos you took at your matched moments. You pick which ones. They go directly to your partner the same way.
- Share card. The image you can post shows your names, your count and a small map. It's only shared when and where you share it.
Apple services
Nearly uses Apple's maps to show your moments and Apple's geocoding to name places (for example "Retiro Park, Madrid"). To do that, the coordinates of the matched places are sent to Apple, without your name or photos. Apple handles them under Apple's Privacy Policy.
What Nearly doesn't do
- No accounts or sign-in.
- No analytics, advertising or tracking of any kind, and no third-party SDKs that collect data.
- No servers: the app doesn't send your data to us or anyone else.
Deleting your data
In Nearly's Settings, Remove (partner's name) deletes their trace and any photos they sent you. Deleting the app deletes everything it stored. Traces you already sent stay on your partner's phone until they remove them.
Purchases
Nearly Pro is processed by Apple through the App Store. Nearly never sees your payment details. The app only checks with the App Store whether Pro has been purchased on your Apple Account.
Children
Nearly collects no data from anyone, including children.
Changes
If this policy ever changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
